PYSA Fall Recreation Season Adjustments

Dear softball families,

We understand how frustrating it was for so many players and families having our Spring season come to an abrupt ending. However, it was very understandable and in the best interest of everyone. We also understand that things are still very fluid and uncertain even at this juncture. The comfort level of different activities will vary from family to family. As softball is considered a lower risk activity and league play is allowed under current emergency orders, we have decided to proceed with the Fall 2020 season. With the Spring 2020 season in mind, the PYSA Board of Directors has put forth additional registration rules and protocols for the Fall 2020 season.

Registration:

· Should any paid registered player for the Fall 2020 season decide not to play on or prior to August 14th, 2020, and notifies PYSA at                                 [email protected], a registration refund less the $10 processing fee will be issued by check from the Parkland Youth Softball                Association.

· If the season is cancelled by government order on or prior to August 14th, 2020, a registration refund less the website $10 processing fee                        will be issued by check from the Parkland Youth Softball Association to all paid registered players.

· Should the season be cancelled by government order between August 15th and September 19th, 2020, all paid registered players will receive a              $75 credit toward the PYSA Spring 2021 season.

Safety:

In order to maintain as safe of an environment as possible, but still allow our girls to play softball this Fall, the following adjustments will be made for the Fall season. These adjustments may be modified based on the most current CDC recommendations and Broward County and City of Parkland Emergency Orders. The situation is ever changing and we will adjust as more information in either direction is solidified.

Additional information about how to keep safe during youth sports can be found at:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/youth-sports.html

While this resource refers to increased risk with certain behaviors, it is important to remember that the activity itself is rated by most experts in the low-medium risk category.

Practices:

· Players and coaches shall remain at a safe distance at all times.

· A parent volunteer will serve as the safety coach and be on the field to make sure girls are social distancing while in line and disinfecting as                    they come on and off the field.

· Players will place their equipment 6 feet apart on the inside of the fence line in designated locations.

· Coaches will disinfect all balls, tees and team equipment after each practice.

· League owned and player shared catchers gear is not to be utilized during practice. Player owned equipment may be used.

· Batting helmets are not to be shared.

· Bats may be shared, but must be disinfected between each use.

· Group "huddles" for teaching and explanation should be widened to allow sufficient social distancing space between players

Games:

· Players and coaches shall remain at a safe distance at all times.

· A parent volunteer will serve as the safety coach and be in the designated "dugout" area to make sure girls are social distancing and disinfecting            as they come on and off the field.

· Players will place their equipment 6 feet apart on the outside of the fence line in designated "dug-out" locations. Each player should bring their                own chair for use during the game.

· Each team will supply 2 balls for each game to be used when their team is on defense.

· Catchers will not be used for 6U and 8U games.

· Multiple sets of catchers equipment will be made available for older divisions (as needed) so that catchers do not have to share equipment. NO              CATCHER SHOULD SHARE EQUIPMENT!

· Coaches should wear face coverings if not coaching a base and maintain social distancing when possible.

· No hand shaking should occur before, during or after the game between coaches, players or officials.

· Teams should exit the field and spectator areas promptly after the game to allow for incoming teams and spectators to prepare and maintain                    proper social distancing. Post game team meetings can be held near the parking lot.

· No team should enter the area in preparation for their game prior to the previous team exiting.

Spectators:

· All spectators should maintain proper social distancing while in the park and at the practice or game. Per the City of Parkland, facial coverings                are required if you are unable to maintain sufficient social distancing or when utilizing a public facility such as concessions or restrooms.

· There are designated seating areas for spectators at each field. Spectator seating currently is allowed down the foul lines and around the outfield            fence beginning after the dugout or bleachers (whichever is further). This is subject to change and all spectators should be respectful of                  requests made by Park Rangers, City Officials, League Officials or Coaches in regards to seating allowance.

· All spectators are required to follow the City of Parkland guidelines while in the park.

· All spectators, players and coaches are encouraged to exit the field area promptly after the game to allow the next teams to utilize the space                  while maintaining social distancing.

Again, this is an ever evolving situation. We learn more every day and strive to consider all new information when developing our plan. We will continue to adjust as recommended throughout the season and provide as safe of an environment as possible for our children to play. This can only be accomplished with your cooperation and support. Please make sure you are observing these protocols while at the events.

Thank you,

PYSA Board of Directors
